Between Santa Monica and Oxnard in California, there is a 47 mile stretch of coastline made accessible by the Pacific Coast Highway 1.

During the first part of the twentieth century however, it was a private dirt road primarily used by the Rindge family to access their expansive Malibu Ranch.  Losing a well fought battle to keep it private, in 1929 it was opened for public use, named the Roosevelt Highway, before being renamed the Pacific Coast Highway. This image captures a view looking north up the road, now known as Will Rogers State Beach. In the early 1900’s the rail lines were taken off and in 1972 the lighthouse was demolished.

PRINTED FROM ORIGINAL WORKS OF ART BY AMERICAN ARTIST KERNE ERICKSON, THESE ONE OF A KIND IMAGES TAKES US BACK IN TIME. EACH BRUSH STROKE BEAUTIFULLY CAPTURING THE SCENES OF THE 1930S AND 1940S. EACH IMAGE TELLING A UNIQUE STORY.
